If at first you don't succeed…

January 14, 2009 by Amelia

knit, knit again!!

my first ever knitted anything!
my first ever knitted anything!

And here is my first ever, knitted piece. It’s a 4 inch-ish, square-ish piece for a blanket! Hooray! It looks like all my previous knitting lessons finally sunk in, and I caught on pretty quickly. I need to relax a little though, because I’m knitting a bit tight. However, this is MORE than I have ever done before. I’m already dreaming of beautiful kid-size stripey sweaters in bright colors.

Actually, this square, and a few more hopefuly better than it and less wonky in spots, is going to be part of a 4-generation blanket. My husband’s grandmother had her mother-in-law knit squares like this in the years before she passed away, keeping them for future generations. So, hopefully in a couple weeks, my kids will have blankets that their Great-Great Grandma, Great Grandma, Grandma, and Mom all helped to make! And maybe someday Little Miss Sunshine will add to them. She’s already asking to “do the needling!”

That looks better than my first (and only) knitting project. A 4-generation blanket is a really neat idea! You are so blessed!

Hey, you’re getting the hang of it–I’m still stumbling through crocheting.

I know how you feel, Jennifer! It took me a looong time to get this far. I’ll post pics of the 4-generation blanket when its done!

Thank you, Michelle! I’ve always enjoyed crocheting. Can’t wait to see what you create!

Way to go! I’m impressed. Keep it up but don’t throw away that first piece you made it will be something you can look back on and compare as you advance. I can remember the first sweater I made for your Dad. I think we were still dating even, well needless to say I must have thought he was a gorilla the arms were way too long or I was enjoying myself so much I didn’t know when to stop! I think I still have it in the cedar chest. Hmmm. lol
