Patons – Next steps three, create your own cardigan

January 22, 2009 by Amelia

I’ve barely learned how to knit, and I’m already dreaming of making sweaters. So much so, that I picked up this small Patons book at JoAnns in the yarn aisle last weekend. I knew that if I didn’t pick it up, someday when  my skill is good enough to make sweaters I would not be able to find it. The patterns in this booklet are all marked as easy. The looks are classic and very up-to-date, and can be dressed up or worn with jeans. This book gives you so many options to create a sweater of your own design– collar, no collar, zipper, buttons, short, long, vest, straight sleeves, flared sleeves… It’s a wanna-be fashion designers dream! No one will believe you made it!

Ok, back to practicing – knit, purl, knit, purl – maybe next winter I’ll be wearing one of my own original sweaters!

Those sweaters are cool! I have a collection of Paton books in my needlework library. Most of them I bought when they were clearanced so most of them I only paid a dollar or less. Now if you could only find the yarn clearanced. Sometimes it happens 🙂 Michaels seem to be having a big yarn sale right now with a lot of yarn 60% off. I have a sweater I want to make for Dad but just can’t find the right yarn. Debbie Macomber has a lot of neat things on her site along with some free knit patterns.

Are you sure you’ll need sweaters in Florida??? 🙂 Maybe they’ll only be reserved for your Michigan visits! We’re going through a heat wave today…it might hit 32. 🙂

Oooh, Mom, bring your books next time you come down. I’ve never looked at your knitting books before. If I get any birthday money (wink) I’ll have to check out the Michaels sale this weekend. I already have a blanket picked out i want to make!

Jamie, actually, we need sweaters this week! We’ve had a cold stretch for a couple weeks – in the 30s over night, highs in the 50s, so that is cold for us!! So good to hear from you again!

I love knitting though I tend to knit for my kids first because being smaller teh project goes so much faster.

I’m sure there is a great possibility that you might get “some” birthday money. 🙂 Now we’re starting a list of things to bring next time lol. It always amazes Dad how much we can pack in the car for the trip down south. Now you know why we don’t fly anymore.

Michelle, I tend to be over anxious and bite more than I should chew. I just can’t help myself!

Mom – no card yet… maybe tomorrow 🙂

Susan, maybe by YOUR birthday I’ll be that good! 🙂
