I’m easing my way back into life post-marathon. I’m still working on putting that experience into words. I had no idea how much running a marathon would impact me. And I’m not talking about my knees.
Until then, here’s some recent kid conversations that have me laughing.
—
On the way home from Bible study the other day the kids were discussing something that escapes my memory. Whatever it was, Little Miss told T-Rex, “That’s impossible! You can’t do that!” T-Rex replied, “It would be possible if you had magic.” There was a slight pause, then I heard him in a quiet voice, “Dear God, please give me MAGIC!!!” Yes, he’s the grandson of two magicians.

A couple days ago after putting her pajamas in the hamper in the laundry room, Little Miss informed me “Mom, the laundry pile is getting pretty big. You’d better do laundry!” Um yeah. Sure thing sweetie. The first thing she said to me when she got home from school? “So, did you do that laundry today?” Are you kidding me? And the answer was no because I had been working on a costume most of the day! I made her help me with it the next day!

While visiting a McDonald’s play area with an aunt and uncle recently, there was a rather noisy bunch of kids who eventually left. After they left Little Miss said, “Wow, it’s kind of quiet in here now.” T-Rex instantly replied, “No it’s not. You’re talking.”

Backseat conversations are the best. One recent evening they were once again talking about something that escapes my memory, but all I remember hearing is T-Rex reply to Little Miss, “Well, YOUR mouth is open!!”
And not long after that one, Little Miss was drawing pictures and handed one to T-Rex with the instructions, “You should tell me that I did a good job and that you love it.” He looked at the picture and said, “Nope. Start over.”

And that is how our family dynamics work around here!

Papa says
If the boy wants to do magic, we can fix him up. That is for sure.
