Let Your Light Shine

May 12, 2011 by Amelia

But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15b

My childhood home had a doorknocker with this verse from Joshua inscribed on it. I remember asking my parents when we moved into the home if they were going to keep the doorknocker or take it down. They replied that they’d keep it because they believed in the verse and that it applied to our family. Over the years that verse provided some interesting conversation starters for door-to-door evangelists of various faiths.

I passed by that verse hundreds of thousands of times. It sunk deep into my subconscious and I came to see that it was true. My family did seek to serve the Lord, not just on Sunday, not just in public, but in private behind closed curtains, when no one else was looking. Oh, we weren’t perfect, and we knew it. But my parents led the way for serving God by serving each other and the community with their gifts.

I was so excited to see that Dayspring’s (in)spired deals theme this month is that same verse from Joshua. And when I had the chance to review this plaque from Dayspring with a portion of Matthew 5:16 on it, I immediately knew where I wanted to hang it – above the kids’ coat rack where we pass by with every coming and going. I envision this being our family’s version of the doorknocker – a reminder that wherever we go, to let the light of Jesus shine in our lives. The plaque is 12″ by 12″ and I love how the chocolate background and white words just POP on my walls. I also love the two little birdies, because I have two little birdies of my own – Little Miss Sunshine and T-Rex. It’s a sturdy plaque, and I think it will hold up to getting knocked off the wall which seems to happen around here. Oh, and it’s only $17. In our previous house I had painted verses on the walls, and it made me so sad when we painted over them before we sold the place. This plaque I can take with me! Not that I’m planning on moving anytime soon…or ever…but in case!

If you’ve never visited Dayspring’s store, or their community blog (in)courage, please do so! Dayspring is so much more than just cards (although the cards are awesome, I got one in the mail last week from a grandparent and I loved it!).

**Disclaimer: I received this item free from Dayspring to review. The opinions stated here are solely mine. I really do love it! There are more reviews on other great products, be sure to check them out!

I hopped over here from Dayspring and saw you put your plaque right about where I put it too! Love the blog too!
